Why on-page work still moves rankings here
Run a commercial query in Bengaluru — "crm software", "interior designer" — and the top three results usually belong to sites with hundreds of referring domains and a full-time SEO team behind them. You can't out-title them. You have to out-earn them, and that takes a year.
Run the equivalent query in Bhubaneswar and the picture changes. A large share of local commercial result pages are held by sites that have never had a technical audit: no schema, a title tag that says "Home", six versions of the same page indexed, three-second server response on mobile. Those sites aren't defending anything. They just got there first.
That's not permanent. It's a window, and it's closing city by city. While it's open, the correct sequence in Bhubaneswar is the opposite of the metro sequence — fix and publish first, build authority second.
The order we run it, and the month links stop being optional
This is the sequence for a Bhubaneswar site with an existing domain and some history. A brand-new domain needs links earlier, because it has no authority at all to redistribute.
- Weeks 1–2 — crawl, baseline, freeze the number. A full crawl, Search Console review, and your trailing-90-day organic lead count written down. That number is what we're judged against.
- Weeks 2–5 — indexation and speed. Duplicate URLs, redirect chains, orphan pages, canonical tags, mobile render, Core Web Vitals. On an older institute or hotel site this alone frequently recovers rankings lost in an old redesign.
- Weeks 3–8 — rewrite what exists before writing what doesn't. Most Bhubaneswar sites have twenty pages and no page that targets the query a buyer actually types. Retitling and rewriting them is faster and cheaper than new content.
- Weeks 6–14 — new pages against the gaps. Course pages, service pages, itinerary pages. Wired together with internal links, which do more work in a low-competition result page than most people expect.
- Month 4 onwards — links, and only where they're needed. By now you know which queries are stuck. If a page has been technically clean and well-written for eight weeks and still sits at position 12, the gap is authority. That's when link work earns its cost, and not before.
Education is the city's real search market, and it runs on a calendar
Bhubaneswar is the education capital of eastern India in a way that shows up plainly in search demand. KIIT and SOA are effectively their own townships. XIM, IIT Bhubaneswar, NISER, AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Utkal University pull applicants from Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and the Northeast. Around them sits a second layer that also lives on organic search: coaching institutes for OJEE, NEET and JEE, hostels, PG accommodation, test-prep and study-abroad consultants.
What breaks most institute SEO here is timing. Admission content published in May is published four months late. The searches that decide an admission happen well before the application does.
| Window | What people search | What must already be live and indexed |
|---|---|---|
| Aug–Nov | Course comparisons, "best college in Odisha for X", fees, placement records, campus reviews | Programme pages, fee pages, placement data, honest campus content |
| Dec–Mar | Entrance exam eligibility, syllabus, application dates, hostel and city-of-study queries | Exam-specific pages, application landing pages, hostel and living-cost pages |
| Apr–Jul | Counselling, cut-offs, seat status, "is it worth it", alumni outcomes | Counselling FAQs, outcome pages, an updated Google Business Profile |
Infocity firms are not selling to Bhubaneswar
The IT and services companies along the Infocity and Knowledge Park stretch in the north of the city have a different problem entirely. Their buyers are in Bengaluru, Gurgaon, the US and the UK. A number-one ranking for "software company in Bhubaneswar" is worth almost nothing to them — it's a query their buyers never type.
So we scope those accounts as national or international campaigns that happen to be run from Odisha. The keyword set is category and capability language: the stack, the service, the compliance requirement, the integration. "Odoo implementation partner India", "HIPAA compliant development team", "React Native app development company" — competitive queries with buyers attached.
That's a harder brief than local SEO, and it's priced accordingly. If your buyer is outside Odisha, read what we do on the SEO side and expect a national keyword set, not a city one.
Puri, Konark and the wall of OTA listings
Bhubaneswar–Puri–Konark is a genuine tourism triangle: the Jagannath Temple and Rath Yatra at Puri, the Sun Temple at Konark, Chilika lagoon, and the city's own temple cluster. Every hotel, homestay and tour operator there fights the same fight — the head queries belong to the online travel agents, who spend more on content in a month than most local operators earn in a year.
You don't beat an OTA at "hotels in Puri". You beat them on the queries an OTA has no reason to answer well: the practical, on-the-ground stuff.
Darshan timings and queue reality. What Rath Yatra week does to road access. Whether Konark is a half day or a full one. Which stretch of Chilika has the dolphins in which month. Those pages rank, get linked, and convert into direct bookings that don't lose 15–20% to a commission.
Where Odia actually shows up in search
Odia is the state language, it has its own script and it carries classical-language status. It's also under-represented in typed search relative to how many people speak it, for a boring reason: Odia keyboard input is more friction than typing the same query in English or in romanised Odia.
So translating your whole site into Odia is usually the wrong first move. Narrower works better. Voice and YouTube are where Odia demand is easiest to see. Google Business Profile posts and reviews in Odia are worth having, because they read as genuinely local. And for consumer categories — clinics, schools, retail, real estate — a handful of Odia pages for the queries people actually ask aloud will do more than a full mirrored site nobody maintains.
- Romanised Odia and English-Odia mixed queries appear in typed search far more often than pure Odia script.
- Odia-language video and voice queries are growing faster than typed ones — plan content that can be spoken, not just read.
- If you do publish in Odia, use
hreflangproperly and keep the pages maintained. A stale half-translated section is worse than none.
What it costs, and what we actually guarantee
SEO with us starts at ₹75,000 a month, and smaller sites — a single-campus institute, a boutique hotel group, a local services business — start at ₹40,000. Ex-GST, month-to-month after the first quarter, 30 days' notice, and you keep every asset if you leave. Full numbers on the pricing page.
The guarantee is specific, and it isn't a ranking promise. Nobody controls Google's index. What we do instead: freeze your trailing-90-day qualified leads from organic search on day one, and if we haven't beaten that number in 90 days, we keep working free until we do.
It's why we take three new clients a month. You can't carry that risk at volume, and the agencies that pretend they can are the ones that stop returning calls in month five.
