Your Amazon listing and your own product page are fighting each other
Search your brand name plus a product and count the results. The Amazon listing is usually first, Flipkart second, a couple of aggregators after that, and your own product page on page two if it's there at all. That isn't a bug or a penalty — marketplace domains carry two decades of link equity and millions of indexed URLs, and a three-year-old Shopify store carries neither.
So don't fight for the same query. You'll lose, and winning would only mean paying to redirect a customer who was already buying. Split it instead: let the marketplace keep the cold, category-level demand where the buyer has no brand in mind, and take everything downstream, where a listing has nothing to say and your site has everything. That's the logic behind SEO versus selling on marketplaces, applied to a category built on repeat purchase.
- Brand and SKU queries. Your product page should be first. If it isn't, the page is thin, mis-canonicalised or blocked — check Search Console before blaming the algorithm.
- Recipe, storage and shelf-life queries. Amazon can't host them. They reach the same buyer weeks earlier and they compound.
- Bulk, distributor and corporate-gifting queries. High value, almost no marketplace competition, and invisible in your ad account because nobody bids on them.
What FSSAI lets you write, and what schema lets Google read
Food is one of the few categories where the copy that ranks and the copy that's legal aren't automatically the same sentence. India's Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018 govern what you may claim in an advertisement — and a product page is an advertisement. *Natural*, *fresh*, *pure* and *original* carry defined conditions. "Low fat" and "no added sugar" are allowed only when the product meets the threshold. Claims that a food prevents or cures a disease are out entirely.
None of that stops you ranking. It means your writer needs the rules before they reach for a superlative, and most don't have them. On the technical side, Indore food brands are badly underserved: proper product markup is what puts a price, a delivery estimate and a returns line into the result itself.

Recipemarkup on genuine recipes only. Bolting it onto a product page to farm a rich result is what core updates eventually clean up.
Freelancer or agency: the question every Indore SME asks first
Nearly every founder here has a freelancer quote sitting next to an agency quote at five times the number. Both are sometimes right, and the deciding factor isn't quality — it's how many disciplines you need running at once.
A good freelancer beats a cheap agency, reliably. One person who genuinely reads your Search Console every week beats four working through a checklist. But a freelancer is one specialism: usually content, occasionally technical, rarely both, almost never links at scale. If your site is small and your real problem is that nobody has written anything, hire the freelancer. We'll say so on the call.
It breaks the month you need a Shopify theme fixed, a content calendar shipped, marketplace strategy decided and press outreach started together. One person becomes a queue. Our SEO starts at ₹75,000/mo, with genuinely small sites from ₹40,000/mo, ex-GST — below that, the freelancer-versus-agency comparison is a more useful read than our pricing page.
Hindi is the language your customers search in, even when they buy in English
Indore searches in Hindi more than Bangalore does and less than Lucknow does. That produces three separate keyword problems, and most agencies solve none of them because their tooling can't see the demand.
- Transliterated Hindi in Latin script — "namkeen ka rate", "sev online order karna hai" — is the largest share and the easiest win. Google usually returns English pages for it, so your existing content can rank with an H1 and an FAQ block written in the buyer's phrasing rather than yours.
- Devanagari queries are a smaller share and much harder to fake. A machine-translated mirror is worse than no Hindi at all: Google's spam policies name unreviewed automated translation directly.
- Mixed queries — a Hindi verb around an English noun — are extremely common and effectively invisible in keyword tools. Export twelve months of Search Console queries and read them.
Pin-code and shipping pages: the boring traffic that converts
This is the least glamorous page type in Indian e-commerce and one of the highest-converting. People search delivery before they search product: does this brand ship to my pin code, is there cash on delivery, can I collect it today.
Two rules keep it on the right side of the scaled-content line. Every page must say something genuinely different — real transit times, named couriers, real COD rules, real pickup options. And publish only what you can serve. A thousand auto-generated pin-code pages sharing one paragraph is the example Google reaches for when it explains scaled content abuse, and the damage doesn't stay confined to those URLs.
| What they search | Who ranks now | What wins it |
|---|---|---|
| "<brand> delivery in Indore" | Usually nobody, or your own marketplace listing | One shipping page with real timelines, named couriers, COD rules |
| "namkeen home delivery Vijay Nagar" | Quick-commerce apps and local aggregators | A same-day or pickup page — only if you genuinely offer it |
| "bulk namkeen supplier Indore" | IndiaMART | A wholesale page with MOQ, price bands and a number a human answers |
| "<brand> shelf life" / "how to store sev" | Quora threads and unrelated blogs | An FAQ block on the product page, marked up as FAQPage |
What the first 90 days look like
- Weeks 1–2. Freeze the baseline: trailing-90-day qualified leads and orders from organic. Full crawl, marketplace overlap audit, twelve months of Search Console queries exported including the Hindi ones.
- Weeks 2–5. Technical and schema. Product, offer, shipping and returns markup, Core Web Vitals on the theme, canonical and faceted-URL cleanup. On most Shopify and WooCommerce stores this recovers traffic before a single new page ships.
- Weeks 4–12. Content on cadence. Brand and SKU pages first, then the recipe and storage cluster, then wholesale and gifting, internally linked so the cluster holds.
- Ongoing. Digital PR. Indore's food industry earns national coverage on its own merits, which is more than most categories can say.
