SEO in Lucknow, in Hindi as much as English

The short answer

In Lucknow a large share of local search happens in Hindi — some in Devanagari script, far more in transliterated Hinglish typed on a budget Android phone. Winning here means a Hindi content layer Google will actually index, not a machine-translated mirror, on a site that loads over patchy 4G.

The short version

  • Devanagari and transliterated Hindi are two different keyword sets returning two different SERPs. Most agencies build neither.
  • Auto-translation is worse than no Hindi. Google's spam policies name unreviewed machine translation explicitly.
  • Admissions SEO is seasonal and SEO takes 3–6 months. Publishing for this year's intake in May is publishing for next year.
  • Your real device is a sub-₹15,000 Android on congested 4G. Lab scores on a laptop tell you nothing about it.

Devanagari or transliterated: two keyword sets, two different SERPs

Google's 2017 study with KPMG, *Indian Languages — Defining India's Internet*, projected that the overwhelming majority of India's next wave of internet users would come online in an Indian language rather than English. Uttar Pradesh is where that prediction landed hardest, and Lucknow is roughly the point on the map where Indian-language search stops being a rounding error in your Search Console export.

The mistake is treating it as one problem. Type a query in Devanagari and Google largely returns Hindi-language pages — a thinner, less contested result set with high intent. Type the same query transliterated — *"lucknow me best dentist"*, *"sasta gym near me"* — and Google usually returns English pages. Which means your existing English content can win transliterated queries today, with nothing more than an H1 and an FAQ block written in the buyer's phrasing instead of yours. The trade-off is set out in full in English versus regional-language SEO.

  • Transliterated first. Bigger share, no new URLs, fastest thing on the list.
  • Devanagari second, and only where the data says so. Separate URLs under /hi/, hreflang for hi-IN and en-IN with an x-default, and a human writer.
  • Never a client-side translate widget. The Hindi text isn't reliably in the HTML Google renders — you get the maintenance cost of a Hindi site with none of the indexing.
  • Search Console is the keyword tool. Ahrefs and Semrush under-report Devanagari and Hinglish so badly that a zero is a statement about their index, not about Lucknow.

Hospitals and diagnostics: the appointment is the only metric that counts

Lucknow is a genuine regional referral centre. SGPGI, KGMU and RMLIMS pull patients from across Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states, and the private hospitals, diagnostic chains and specialist clinics around them compete for the same catchment — one that searches in a mix of Hindi and English and converts by phone far more often than by form.

Health is also the category Google treats most severely. Its quality rater guidelines classify medical content as Your Money or Your Life, which means an anonymous 900-word article on chest pain is a liability, not an asset. Named doctors, real qualifications and a visible medical review line aren't decoration here — they're the ranking argument.

  • One Google Business Profile per location, correct primary category, real photos, appointment links — see Google Business Profile optimisation.
  • Physician markup on doctor pages, MedicalClinic or Hospital on location pages, with matching NAP details everywhere.
  • Call tracking. Most health enquiries here are phone calls, and an untracked call is an untracked conversion.
  • Procedure-cost pages. Everyone hides prices; the cost query has the volume; publishing a genuine range wins it and filters the calls.
  • Reviews earned honestly. Incentivised reviews breach Google's policies and the takedown costs more than they were worth.

Coaching institutes and universities live and die by admission season

Lucknow's education market runs on a calendar: board results, UPPSC and state recruitment notifications, university admission windows, counselling rounds. Demand spikes hard then disappears, which is exactly the wrong shape for a channel that takes three to six months to build. A page published in May for a May intake is a page published for next year.

The second rule is that you keep the URL. Publishing admissions-2027 fresh every year throws away every link the previous version earned. One evergreen URL per programme, updated inside, compounding.

  1. Fee pages. "Fees" is one of the highest-volume, lowest-quality result sets in Indian education search, because every institute hides the number. Publish a genuine range and you win the query and cut unqualified calls in one move.
  2. Cut-off, eligibility and syllabus pages, updated annually on stable URLs, are what earn links from student forums and aggregators.
  3. Faculty and results pages with real names and real outcomes. No invented placement percentages — that's the one thing a parent will check.
  4. Locality pages for a city where students choose by commute: Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Aliganj. Only where you have a real centre.

Chikankari sellers are competing with Amazon, not with each other

Lucknow chikankari carries a Geographical Indication — a legal statement about origin and an enormous, mostly unused content asset. The demand splits cleanly in two, and most sellers chase the wrong half.

The transactional half — "chikankari kurta online" — belongs to Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and the large ethnic-wear players. You aren't outranking them this year and paying to try is a bad trade. The other half is entirely yours, because a listing structurally can't serve it. Buyers ask what the stitches are called, how to tell handwork from machine embroidery, how to wash it without ruining it, and whether the piece is actually from Lucknow. Tepchi, bakhiya, murri, phanda, jaali — each is a query, an explainer, and a reason for a craft desk to link to you.

  • Stitch and technique explainers, using your own photography of your own artisans' work.
  • Care and washing guides — evergreen, high intent, and searched *after* purchase, which is where repeat orders start.
  • Authenticity content: what the GI tag means, what machine chikan looks like up close, why the price gap exists.
  • Artisan and workshop stories. The one category where digital PR is genuinely easy, because craft desks want the piece.

Your site is slow on the phone your customer actually owns

Core Web Vitals in Search Console come from the Chrome User Experience Report — real users, real devices, real connections. In Lucknow that skews hard towards budget Android handsets on congested mobile data, which is why a site that scores well on your laptop fails the field report.

Interaction to Next Paint breaks first: low-end Android CPUs choke on JavaScript, and every chat widget, popup, pixel and review carousel competes for the same thread. Google has been clear that page experience is a tiebreaker rather than a lever, so we won't pretend a speed fix is a ranking strategy. The reason to do it is simpler — a form abandoned at six seconds never becomes an appointment.

What a Lucknow retainer costs, and what it buys

SEO from ₹75,000/mo, genuinely small sites from ₹40,000/mo, ex-GST. Month-to-month after the first quarter, 30 days' notice, and you keep every asset — pages, Hindi copy, schema, tracking.

What that buys here specifically: a bilingual keyword set built from your Search Console and call logs rather than a tool that can't read Devanagari, speed work aimed at the devices your traffic actually uses, and a content cadence that runs ahead of your season instead of chasing it. What it doesn't buy is a promised position — nobody controls Google's index. We freeze your trailing-90-day qualified leads from organic search on day one, and if we haven't beaten that number in 90 days we keep working free until we do. That's also why we take three clients a month.

Do I need a Hindi version of my website in Lucknow?

Often you need Hindi phrasing more than Hindi pages. Most Lucknow search is transliterated Hindi typed in Latin script, and Google usually serves English pages for it. Build Devanagari URLs when Search Console shows real Devanagari impressions — and when you can pay a human to write them.

Is machine translation good enough for Hindi SEO?

No. Google's spam policies specifically name text translated by an automated tool without human review. Beyond the policy risk, machine Hindi reads wrong to a Lucknow reader in a way that costs the enquiry even when it ranks. Translate with an editor or don't translate.

How much does an SEO company in Lucknow charge?

Local freelancers commonly quote ₹8,000–₹25,000 a month; agencies range from roughly ₹20,000 to ₹1,50,000 depending on scope and language coverage. Ours starts at ₹75,000/mo, smaller sites from ₹40,000/mo, ex-GST. Bilingual work genuinely costs more, because it's two content operations.

When should a coaching institute start SEO for the next admission cycle?

A full cycle ahead. SEO takes three to six months to move competitive queries, so pages for a June intake need to be live, indexed and earning links by the previous winter. Publishing in April for April is publishing for next year, whether anyone says so or not.

Why does my site score well in PageSpeed Insights but fail Core Web Vitals?

They measure different things. The score is a lab test on a simulated device; the Core Web Vitals assessment uses the Chrome User Experience Report — real users on real hardware. In Lucknow that means budget Android phones on congested mobile data, and Interaction to Next Paint is usually what fails.

Can you work with a hospital or diagnostics chain?

Yes, and we're stricter here than most. Named authors with real credentials, medical review on clinical pages, no fabricated outcome statistics, and reporting that counts appointments and tracked calls rather than sessions. If you want traffic charts instead, we're the wrong agency.
